5/29/13

We had our class picnic today and had a blast!  We got really lucky with the weather and were able to have the whole party before it started drizzling forcing us to go inside.

The moms that planned and helped out with the party did such a great job and really made a picnic where our kids could have fun and enjoy their time.

We ate pizza on our beach towels with friends, made ice cream sundaes, made picture frames that had a class picture and all of our friends' names on them, played a duck game and got tattoos, played Bozo Buckets, had a birdie toss, and also played egg and spoon relay games as well!

Overall it was a great day and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun!

Friday will be our last spelling test and then we will be working on some really fun end of the year activities for the end of the school year!

It's coming so fast and the kids seem like they've grown a foot over night lately!  Can't wait to continue having fun together until the last day of school!

Home Stretch!

Another week has gone and flown by for us!  Oh my!

This week we finished our last chapter in Math, have taken the chapter test, our chapter 13-16 benchmark test, and our end of the year test.  Coming up for the last two weeks are 10 step up to second grade lessons.  These lessons will give them a taste of what they will be covering in the first few weeks/months of second grade with enVisions.

We will also be exploring more of our favorite authors, Laura Numeroff and Tom Lichtenheld.

Next week, Wednesday, will be our end of the year picnic.  This will take place from 1-2pm in the field next to the playground.  We're really hoping for nice weather so the kids can get outside.  I will be sending a reminder note home with your child on Tuesday but I will also post it on here.

We will be eating pizza on this day.  The kids will still need to bring/buy a lunch because we will not be eating the pizza until around 1pm.  This is too long for them to go without eating.  The pizza will be more of a snack than a meal.  I also ask that you send them to school with a beach towel because we will be sitting and eating in the grass.

Our room moms are planning a few fun games and a craft for our party as well.  If you do come to the picnic, please no younger siblings, I would not like to see them hurt and there will also only be enough for our class to eat and work on.

As the next 7 days go by, please remind your child how important it is to be respectful, understanding, and safe.  Also please remind them that school is not over just because we have 7 days left.  We still have a lot of learning to do and it is hindered by behaviors that they exhibit this close to the end of the school year.  I am as excited as they are but we still have so much to do and I want to enjoy and have fun doing it!

As always, thank you so much for all of your support and hard work behind the scenes!  Your devotion and help will make your child a successful person in the future!

Oh My!

Oh my!  There are only 17 days left of school and we have hit the ground runnin'!  After finishing up two weeks of MAP assessments and our Easy CBM Fluency assessments, we completed a new reading level benchmark on your child and finished our final writing sample.

I am very proud of how far your children have come since the beginning of the school year!!

However, with that being said, please remind your child that although 17 days may not seem like much, we still have a LOT of learning to do and it is very important to focus, work hard, and complete everything to the best of their ability!  School isn't over until the bell rings at 10:00am on June 6!  I like to fill their heads with loads of learning all the way until the end!

Also, I have noticed that many of my permanent markers have been making their way out of their cup and disappearing.  Please do me a favor and check your child's backpack and belongings for any runaway markers.  It is important to me that they are returned to their home as soon as possible.

Just a reminder that your child's permission slip for Walk in the Park is due no later than Thursday, May 16!!  Walk in the Park is on Friday, May 17 and if your child does not have their permission slip in and comes to school, they will not be able to participate with us.  If for some reason you do not want your child to attend, please let me know as soon as possible!!

Walk in the Park is always a TON of fun and I am really looking forward to it!!

That is all for now!  Please remind them to have fun but to come to school prepared to learn!
